2005 Rose Scholarship Awards

April 22- The University of Tennessee Men's Rugby Club announced the recipients of the 2005 Rose Scholarships at its annual Old Boys Awards Banquet on Saturday night.

The Rose Scholarship is awarded each year to players that have distinquished themselves in the area of strength and conditioning while playing rugby at Tennessee. This award was created and is annual funded by UT Old Boy Jay Blandford, and administered by Mick Larrabee, a specialist in strength and conditioning with the Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics. Awards are presented to overall top performers on a series of strength and conditioning tests. This year 1st Place receives a $300 scholarship to be applied towards the student's fall semester tuition while 2nd and 3rd will each receive $200.

For 2005, the UT Old Boys are pleased to award the following Rose Scholarship Recipients:

1st Place- Scott Silverstein
Scott is finishing up his junior year at UT after transfering from Miami (FL) University where he also played rugby. Scott's hometown is Parkland, Fl and he plays lock and flanker for the Volunteers.

2nd Place - Caleb Joiner
Jesse, a wing and fullback, is a junior from Corryton, TN. He is just finishing his first year as a member of UTRFC.

3rd Place - Kyle DiMeola
Kyle, a freshman center from Hendersonville, TN is in his first year of rugby with UTRFC and is also a freshman ironman recipient.
