2008 USA Rugby National Championship Tournament

Tennessee traveled to Albuquerque New Mexico for the 2008 USA Rugby National Championship Tourament on April 17-22 as the #2 South seed and #16th overall (complete itinerary). For the first time, the 16 team event was held at the same location and actually also included the Division II Men and Division I and II Women tournaments. (Complete Div I Championship Bracket).

Tennessee 03, California 102 (Match Details)
The Volunteers opened the tournament on Day 1 with the challenge of facing clearly the best team in the country, California - Berkeley. Tries came early and often for the Golden Bears relegating UT to the consolation match against Army.

Tennessee 49, US Military Academy 44 (Match Details)
The Volunteers outlast the Cadets in overtime to claim the consolation match. Chad Edmonds powers into the try zone in the 104th minute for the sudden death victory. The win assures the South that it will not be the 16th seed in the 2009 event.
