Tennessee Defeats Oklahoma on Day 01 of 2005 Fall Break
Second side keeps pace with two victories
October 14, 2005 (Jonesboro, AR) — UT overcame handling errors and a ball hungry Sooner defense to claim a 31-13 victory on Friday afternoon. In the first game of the afternoon, Truman State defeated Arkansas State in a hard fought contest. In the third contest the B side came up victorious in a four 20-minute period contest.

A couple of timely tries by center Kevin Hartley and some overall solid defense proved to be enough to overcome handling errors and critical mistakes by the Volunteers. Oklahoma was every bit the worthy opponent that UT expected with a solid set of forwards and a disciplined backline. The final score was not indicative of the pace of the match as it was a one possession game well into the 70th minute. Overall team defense was the difference in the match as Tennessee held Oklahoma to a lone try which was a blocked kick and chase down that covered some 60 yards.

The second side kept the pace from the Lee match the weekend before and ran in 7 tries in the 4 20-minute period match. The first two periods served as an "official" UT v. ASU B match and then we substituted with the few Oklahoma and Truman players that still hadn't received playing time on the day. Strong ball delivery by scrumhalf Tony Baker and some nice pace on the perimeter provided the spark for the victories.
