Tennessee Overcomes Old Boys for the first time since 1990
April 28, 2007 (Fulton Bottoms, USA) —UT's A side out ran the alumni seven tries to two and claimed the 2007 UT Old Boys match. The Old Boys started with the vigor that has come to characterize the annual clash of past vs. present and were rewarded with the initial lead. However, early on several other promising Old Boy opportunities were left begging which turned out to be a sign of things to come. The teams continued to battle throughout the first half that left the young bucks with a 10 point lead at the break. In the second half, the young bucks continued to take full advantage of each opportunity and made good use of their pace and fitness to put across five additional tries. Appropriately, seniors Josh Gruner and Wayne Chermely, in their final run out as undergraduate Volunteers, touched down tries in the final 15 minutes to put the contest away. Overall it ended up another classic battle of UT Rugby with both the young bucks and Old Boys pushing the limits for 80 minutes. UT Seniors can now go out the the satisfaction of having qualified for four straight national tournaments and the first victory over the UT Old Boys since 1990; plus, will no doubt the will look forward to coming back to campus in 2008 to end the young buck winning streak at 1.
